This week: harmony

Your world without will be a reflection of your world within.

The one line to keep

Your world without will be a reflection of your world within.

This change of thought is called a discipline, and its first fruit is harmony. If you want harmonious conditions in your life, you must develop a harmonious mental attitude — the outside is a print of the inside, not a separate event. The exercise: concentrate on harmony so deeply, so earnestly, and so completely that you are conscious of nothing but harmony. Haanel adds the warning that decides whether any of this works: reading these lessons will get you nowhere. Application is where the value is.
Why this matters to you
Peace is not the reward for solving everything. It is the condition in which things finally get solved.

Study question for this sublevel

Haanel put a review question at the end of every part. Answer out loud first — the recall is what moves it into memory.

140. What is the result of a harmonious mental attitude?

Harmonious conditions in life. Thought, immaterial though it may be, is the matrix that shapes the issues of life. “The mind has been active in all fields during this fruitful century, but it is to science we must look for the thoughts that have shaped all thinking.”

Haanel's own words — points 28–31

Quoted exactly from The Master Key System (1912, public domain). The translation above is ours; this is his.

28

This discipline, this change of thought, this mental attitude will not only bring you the material things which are necessary for your highest and best welfare, but will bring health and harmonious conditions generally.

29

If you wish harmonious conditions in your life, you must develop a harmonious mental attitude.

30

Your world without will be a reflection of your world within.

31

For your exercise this week, concentrate on Harmony. When I say concentrate, I mean all that the word implies; concentrate so deeply, so earnestly, that you will be conscious of nothing but harmony. Remember, we learn by doing. Reading these lessons will get you nowhere. It is in the practical application that the value lies. “Learn to keep the door shut, keep out of your mind and out of your world every element that seeks admittance with no definite helpful end in view.” - George Mathew Adams
